PERIPHERAL BLOOD STEM CELLS

Currently, bone marrow stem cells are harvested through a surgical process involving drilling into the bone, causing blood loss and discomfort to the patient and requiring hospitalization and anaesthesia. THAI Stemlife employs an easy and convenient process to collect your stem cells. This procedure involves stimulating your stem cells from your bone marrow into the peripheral blood veins before stem cell collection via a process similar to a blood donation.

STEM CELL PROCESSING & BANKING

This is a process whereby stem cells are collected from the blood stream, and processed to allow for storage without damaging the cells for an indefinite period of time until the cells are required. This procedure ensures that a maximum number of stem cells can be harvested during a single collection.

Collection Procedure

Your stem cells are collected in 4-5 hours. Blood is withdrawn from one arm, circulated through an apheresis machine and the remaining blood is returned to the client in the opposite arm.

Storage(Cryopreservation)

The stem cells are transported to our laboratory by our logistics team for further processing.

HOW CAN I HAVE MY STEM CELLS COLLECTED FROM MY OWN BODY? IS IT A PAINFUL PROCESS?

Advances in medical technology make own stem cell harvesting safe, non-invasive and painless. Mobilization is a very simple process that indllces the stem cells to migrate from the bone marrow into the blood stream for easy, convenient and non-invasive collection. This is done by giving G-CSF once a day consecutively for 5 days. The only pain occurs when the needle is placed. This is tolerated without too much discomfort. The collection of blood stem cells is like routine blood collection and no anaesthesia is required.

HOW LONG CAN MY STEM CELLS BE STORED IN LIQUID NITROGEN?

“There is no evidence at present that stem cells stored at -196 C in an undisturbed manner lose either in vitro-determined viability or biological activity. Therefore, at the current time, no expiration date need be assigned to stem cells stored continuously under Liquid nitrogen”

Current data reflects that stem cells stored for 23.5 years have the same composition as they did at the time of storage. All science involving cryogenic storage of cells also indicates that the cells should remain viable indefinitely.
