Q. What is a Surrogate?
A. A Surrogate is the term for a woman who carries and delivers a baby that she is not genetically or biologically related to for a couple or a single intended parent.
Q.What happens after I submit my application?
A. It will be reviewed within one business day and we will let you know if we can move forward or not. If we can, we will ask you to fill out the second part of your application. Again, we’ll let you know within one business day if we can continue to move forward.
Once part two has been accepted, we will invite you to schedule your new Surrogate phone consult, during which we will discuss any questions and what New Genetics Global Limited offers you during your Surrogacy. Next, you will complete some paperwork and your profile for intended parents.
Finally, it us time to come to our clinic for screening. We will make all your travel and screening appointments. Screening consists of two appointments; a medical screening with our IVF Physician and a psychological screening with Fertility Counseling Services. Two weeks later, we should have your clearance.
Q. How do I get matched with intended parents?
A. At New Genetics Global Limited we are unique because we let you choose the intended parents first, whereas most agencies let the intended parent choose the Surrogate before you can see their profile. Once you complete your screening, we’ll send you one intended parent profile. We make our choice based on matching your preferences with theirs and legal considerations based on where you live. You have the option to accept or decline the profile. Once you accept a profile, we will send it along to the intended parent. If it is a hit, we will schedule your match meeting.
Q. Why does New Genetics Global Limited require their Surrogate to be completely screened prior to being matched with intended parents when other agencies promise to give me a match right away?
A. New Genetics Global Limited is one of the few agencies who fully screen their surrogates prior to matching with intended parents. This benefits you because we make sure you are screened and ready to start a cycle before we have you choose your intended parents. That way you do not go through the trouble of meeting someone and then finding there may be some delay or disqualification for medical reasons. We find that once everyone meets they are ready to get the show on the road.
Q. What is the wait time to be matched with intended parents?
A. For the vast majority of our surrogates, there is no wait time to be matched once you have been screened. If you have very specific matching preferences, you may have a short wait, but it is generally no more than a month.
Q. Will my intended parents live near me?
A. Very rarely do intended parents and surrogates live near one another. We find that geography does not play an important role in a surrogate relationship. Rather, we find that it is more important that you have similar views on the type of relationship you would like. In this day and age, people find all kinds of ways to be in touch… Skype, Facebook, texting, phone calls, etc.
Q. All this talk about screening… Do you screen the intended parents?
A. Prior to being admitted to the program, Intended Parents go through an extensive application process and a 1-1/2 hour in-person interview with one of the senior executives of the company. New Genetics Global Limited does not work with every person who applies to our program.
Once admitted to the program, each Intended Parent undergoes criminal background checks as well as medical screening.
Q. Do parents ever refuse to take their baby? What would happen?
A. It has never happened with any of our families, but this is a common question! The funny thing is that many intended parents ask about Surrogates wanting to keep the baby, and many Surrogates want to make sure the intended parents are going to take their baby home! So, one fear sort of cancels the other out. But let’s just say IF it did happen… We would work with an attorney to find the baby a loving adoptive family.
Q. How do you handle the financial aspects of my surrogacy?
New Genetics Global Limited has a finance team dedicated to taking care of case. To ensure your financial security, all client accounts must be fully funded before any Surrogate begins taking medications. We have a general liability policy to protect the funds we hold. We handle all the financial negotiations with your intended parents.
Q. Do I have to use my own insurance or find a policy for this process?
A. If you have your own insurance, we will review it to see if it covers surrogate pregnancies. New Genetics Global Limited feels very strongly about only using insurance policies that are safe for our Surrogate and intended parents. So, if your policy has an exclusion for surrogacy or you do not have your own insurance, we will have you apply for a Surrogate maternity policy to cover your OB care and delivery. This policy will be paid for by the intended parent.
Q. Do I have to come to Southeast Asia for every appointment? What travel can I expect and is it different for international IPs? Can I bring my kids?
A. You don’t have to come to Southeast Asia for every appointment. You will need to come for your medical screening, match meeting and each embryo transfer. Once you are confirmed pregnant, you will see an OB near you, and the remainder of your appointments will occur near home. Every now and then, a gestational carrier may need to make one more trip to have a special prenatal test or procedure, but this is very rare. Even if your intended parents live internationally, they come to you. Typically, Surrogates do not bring their children out to Southeast Asia. While you are here, you will have appointments and we want you to be relaxed and focused. So think of it as a little vacation!
Q. How is the delivery handled?
A. We find that most hospitals are great with surrogate births. Prior to the birth, we recommend that you and your intended parent visit the hospital to familiarize yourselves with the facility.
